CRYSTAL BRUIDSCHOENEN

The terms get used loosely. "Crystal" usually refers to high-lead-content glass cut with multiple facets (Swarovski being the best-known brand, though there are now many comparable producers). "Rhinestone" historically referred to imitation diamonds made from rock crystal, but today commonly means glass or acrylic crystals. The visible difference comes down to facet count and clarity — premium-grade crystals refract more light and look sharper than basic rhinestones at any distance.

Heavily encrusted crystal shoes (full-coverage rhinestone) read as evening rather than daytime — the sparkle dominates in bright natural light. Crystal-detailed shoes (a strap, a pointed-toe trim, a small cluster) work for daytime ceremonies and read as elegant rather than flashy. The amount and placement of crystal determines daytime appropriateness, not the use of crystal itself. For an outdoor afternoon ceremony, choose crystal accents; for an evening reception, full crystal works.

Properly set crystals — flush-mounted with the surrounding fabric or in low-profile prong settings — sit at or just above the surface and don't catch on hem fabric. Tall, raw prong settings can occasionally pull threads on delicate fabrics like silk chiffon or fine tulle. If your dress has a long, light train that drags over your shoes constantly, ask about the crystal application method before ordering.

Beter dan de meeste andere versieringen. Kristallen vangen en breken al het beschikbare licht — zelfs kerstverlichting of kaarslicht zorgt voor zichtbare glinstering in close-up shots. Bij flitsfotografie kunnen kristallen af en toe kleine heldere vlekken veroorzaken die fotografen in de nabewerking oplossen. Voor donkere locatieverlichting waar je schoendetails wilt laten zien in spontane foto's, is kristal de meest fotogenieke versieringskeuze.

Kristallen verzamelen olie en stof tijdens een lang evenement en verliezen hun glans zonder reiniging. Gebruik een zachte make-upkwast gedoopt in een mengsel van koel water en een druppel afwasmiddel, borstel de kristallen voorzichtig en droog ze daarna met een zachte microvezeldoek. Vermijd weken — water kan de zetlijm onder het kristal losmaken. Bij hardnekkig dof worden herstelt een juweliersdoekje (het soort dat voor diamanten ringen wordt gebruikt) het grootste deel van de glans.
